Richard rebuilt the large cabin on my wooden motor vessel. During the work the deterioration in the original cabin was found to have caused previously undetected degradation in one or two deck beams and also in a fuel tank. Richard dealt with these additional items without so much as a flicker of an eyelid.
I am delighted with the results, and it was a pleasure see a true craftsman at work. Some pictures of the work appear in the gallery on this website.
Throughout the work Richard and I communicated frequently and well, so as to achieve a suitable balance between cost and scope. I would trust him with further work without hesitation , though I hope not to have to do so for quite a while!
My only worry during the work was whether my own small contributions were up to the necessary standard!

One problem with owning a wood boat is finding someone reliable to repair it. Fortunately I found Richard Bettinson who has carried out several jobs including replacing the complete coachroof and laminated deck beams on my Holman design classic.
Not only was the work first class, it was carried out quickly and professionally and he project managed some other related work at the same time.
It was also reassuring to speak to someone who as a time served traditional repair and build apprentice at a major famous yard had a vast wealth of knowledge of construction and materials.

I cannot praise enough the standard of their work, the quality of the materials used and the value for money that they represent in terms of the quality of the finished product. Richard Bettinson himself is quite simply a master craftsman of the highest standard. He is highly creative in the design solutions he is able to recommend, he is diligent, hard working and has never cut corners. I was warned prior to commencing the restoration of Gipsy Moth III that it would be a long, frustrating and unpredictable process. Directly thanks to Richard it has been none of the above instead it has been a delight to watch as the ideas of a true craftsman are fulfilled to a standard that is really second to none.

Richard replaced a wooden rubbing strake on one side of our 40 year old 20ft yacht. Hardly a big job, but done with great care, even creating wooden dowels from the same piece of hardwood to mask the screw holes and fitting them so the grain matched and the holes are virtually invisible. If a job's worth doing - I suggest you get Richard to do it! Top-quality work and a really good man to deal with. I can't recommend him highly enough.
